Cosy Guest Bedroom Makeover

Bedroom with moody green walls, ruffled linen bed sheets, vintage decor

Our guest bedroom is one of my ‘quick win rooms’ and my favourite transformation. There wasn’t much to change in the room - except the flooring, new curtains and paint. What it needed was some styling TLC. I’d binge-watched an unhealthy amount of the BBC’s Interior Design Masters before starting the bedroom makeover. I had fallen in love with season three contestant and winner Banjo Beale’s approach to designing spaces with colour and an elevated sense of cosiness. I took a page out of his design playbook and embraced the dark side; I opted for a dark and dramatic colour palette, incorporating texture, vintage, and thrifted pieces into my styling.

The first major change we made to the room was tearing out the drab grey carpet and replacing it with high-quality Belgian-made engineered flooring in an American oak finish. It is extremely durable and comes with a lifetime guarantee. Mark and his crew from Underfoot Flooring did a fantastic job installing it throughout the house.

For the paint colour, we opted for Natural Rustic by Valspar—a muted shade of deep forest green that has officially become my new favourite colour. To create a heightened sense of cosiness, we went for all-out colour saturation, painting the walls, doors, ceiling, and skirting in Natural Rustic.

We balanced the moodiness with neutral-coloured bed linen, a traditional-style rug, and natural wooden elements for added earthiness. The pièce de résistance was my photographic work, an oversized framed print of Ti Point Magic. The hazy, gold tones in the print complimented the dark green of the walls. Overall, we were happy with the finished result—a bedroom with a vibe that beckons our guests to snuggle up and relax.
