Garage to beachy studio conversion
When I hatched the idea of converting our 54 sqm aluminium double garage into an office/creative studio, I had in mind a space to work, create, chill, and think. Working from home meant my work life had encroached on our personal living space. I needed a divide, and it made sense to use our garage (which was being used as storage space for junk).
We wanted to keep it simple and retain a beachy look; we kept the exposed beams and concrete floors and clad the walls with tongue and groove plywood sheets. The biggest cost was the brand new double-glazed windows and bi-folding doors, which we sourced from a supplier in West Auckland - but no regrets! The bi-folding doors are my favourite feature in the space, especially on a sunny day. While I still have a few finishing touches - namely, staining the walls and painting the exterior - I'm stoked with how the project turned out.
If you're considering converting your garage into another dwelling or work studio, I highly recommend it! It will give you more square footage, but having extra space to entertain guests, work, or relax will make the costs and effort 100% worthwhile.
